To the extent of my knowledge, there are no permissions needed to shoot in the outside locations of which I have chosen. The only component of my music video which needs permission is the use of the music track itself.
Some of my filming was done yesterday (14th December) as I was in London and had my camera with me so I took the opportunity to film as much as I could. This shoot wasn't exactly planned but I knew roughly the types of shots I wanted to achieve but without the storyboard being with me I was left to be more imaginative about the subjects that I filmed. I was able to get some good shots at Hyde Park as the sun was just about to go down over the lake of the birds taking flight and then later in the evening I was able to capture footage of the buildings in the dark with all their lights on.
Other dates for filming reside within the end of this week (w/c 15th December) which consists of the filming of the performance - I'm now considering only including lip-syncing and not a band performance as although it is part of the whole genre to have band performance featured, I feel the lip-syncing will draw the audience in to have more of a connection to the persons life which is being portrayed. I also feel that the band performance would only aid in the distraction of the meaning of which I wish to convey. If by any misfortune I don't get the footage I need to create an effective music video, I will have to return to London at some point to get more footage or if it's only the performance and naturalistic shots/representation of alcoholism shots which need re-shooting then I only need to re-organise a time to do that at home or walk to the fields which surround my house. There is only going to be three main locations for my music video, those being; London, my home, a local field. Non of these places require permissions to film.
In terms of the locations within London, I will focus mainly upon the built up areas such as Canary Warf, around the Hyde Park area, Westminster etc as well as areas which feature more of a natural environment such as St. James' Park and the Lake at Hyde Park. My equipment list for filming is very basic and only includes the camera + spare battery. A tripod isn't needed nor is a dolly as the aim is to create a slightly unsteady result of the camera work to portray the feeling of instability in ones life and the uncertainty that is the future of the earth. As the video is set to include an individual with a drink problem, the slight shakiness of the cinematography will aid in the representation of this issue.
Weather conditions are set to be fine so that an umbrella shan't be needed. As there are no 'main' on screen characters and the lip syncing is going to be framed up close to the actors mouth, costume doesn't need to be considered for the potential actors. Props that will be needed are drinks glasses, empty/full bottles of alcohol and photo albums/physical memories which will all be sourced at my home where the filming will be done for that particular part of the video. As my video idea is to reflect a bleak outlook upon the changes of life from nature to city; life to death, the weather doesn't play much of a part when it comes to planning. The nature shots are preferably shot in strong light and the city scape shots either at night or in dimmer light. Even though the video is going to be converted into black and white in FinalCut, lighting will play a part in the final feeling conveyed by the shot compilations but in the bigger scheme of things, my filming doesn't need to be scheduled around the weather.
The actors were contacted and asked what days would be best for them for filming. However after a couple of failed attempts as to finding days that everyone was free, I decide to change my idea so that it didn't rely on actors but didn't scrap the idea of having someone in front of the camera all together. The change in idea also helped to progress my thoughts and pushed me towards a more cinematographic outcome than previously decided.
